Collective Architecture is a boutique architectural firm located in St. John’s, NL that is owned and operated by husband and wife team Kelvin & Shanna Nyathi. With a focus on unique and sustainable design, their collection of projects represent a truly unique take on residential and commercial spaces.
And as designers themselves, it was a real honour to work with people who speak our language and who were really easy to collaborate with during the entire process.

Challenge
In our research into the architectural firm industry, one trend we came across was a focus on minimalist design. While this trend produces beautiful sites, it also presents a challenge when it comes to content. How do you make a site that’s incredibly streamlined yet still informative?
Strategy
The name of the game is white space and font choice. These two factors alone made an incredible impact on the overall design of the website. By incorporating a very simple, thin line font with an above average amount of white space, we were able to create breathing room around copy and images and really reinforce the minimalist aesthetic.
Agencies that understand their users build more effective websites. With all of our websites, we take the time at the beginning to not just understand our clients, but to understand their clientele. As we look through competitor’s websites and understand our client’s goals, we can then begin to craft our navigation, a list of functionality, and a design that ties it all together. The end result is a website meets and exceeds client goals and user expectations.
